After the horrendous debate of GOP Presidential contenders that basically anointed them The Top Ten most guaranteed to lose candidates, some are starting to realize that kissing W's ass and pandering to the Christian right maybe isn't the way to go. Romney is now distancing himself from the dumbest President ever by publicly stating he thinks the administration screwed up big time. Sure he tries to soften it by saying Bush isn't solely to blame, but we get the message. Also, he doesn't seem to be retreating from his former pro-choice leanings. Romney: "I've always been personally pro-life, but, for me, it was a great question about whether or not government should intrude in that decision. And when I ran for office (in Massachusetts), I said I'd protect the law as it was, which is effectively a pro-choice position." That's code for pro-choice. To be pro-choice means you're against government intrusion in your personal life. Get it, right wing Nazis?
Then, you have Guido with his latest assertion that his support for abortion rights, gun control and gay rights should not disqualify him from winning the party’s presidential nomination. After his baffled, trying to please everybody response in the debate, he seems to come out firm now that he is pro-choice.
There are two key points. Bush is a lead zeppelin, and the only way a Republican has a chance of winning the 2008 election is to parachute from him. Secondly, the Christian right are dwindling in numbers because of political burnout, and normal Americans are sick of their moral opinionatedness. Basically, America is burned out from the Republicans because they have led us astray. Do you want proof? Their ability to raise money at a GOP spring fund raiser saw a 62% drop because people don't believe them anymore.

Marc,
Great piece. However, Robert Plante and Jimmy Page might take issue with your description of our brainless leader. One additional thought. Americans may be fed up with the religious right because they are beginning to realize that they are a bunch of God-damn hypocrites (e.g., pro-life in utero only and keeping homosexuality in the closet...of the rectory).
