What mistakes?

The Justice Department orchestrated the firing of eight US Attorneys. There are emails that show plans were in the works since 2005 to scrap attorneys that were not compatible with the partisan political agenda of Bush & Co. Harriet Miers, ex-Supreme Court nominee, even suggested they fire all 93 attorneys. Brilliant Harriet! Even Alberto Gonzales isn't that stupid. He conceded "mistakes were made...blah blah blah...I'll get to the bottom of it...blah blah blah." What mistakes? There were no mistakes. This was a deliberate retribution to make those US attorneys that were either not prosecuting Democrats fast enough or were prosecuting Republicans pay. It was probably orchestrated by Karl Rove, who will skate free on this like he does on everything else. The only mistakes you lament, Alberto, are that you could not make this more transparent.

There are calls for Gonzales to resign. Every time Bush & Co fucks up, there are calls for resignations of staffers or cabinet members. Yes, they should resign. However, the problem is Bush, Cheney and Rove. They are ultimately responsible. They are the ones that should resign. Until they are held accountable, Bush will just appoint another willing co-conspirator (who will also take a bullet for the President) to take his place.
